Newborn & Baby Gallery
This is a sample of the newborn photographs that may be taken during a photo session. Newborn photography may be more a lifestyle look or posed studio style. All babies are different and will be best posed in positions that are most comfortable for each individual. During every session, we strive to photograph babies awake and curled which is unique to each baby. Jodie has been working exclusively with newborn babies for over 15 years. She has photographed in the high stress environment of commercial productions with multiple babies simultatneously as well as in her studios and on location for her clients over the years. She strives for a peaceful, safe, comfortable, and stress free photo session for you and family.
While it is best to schedule your newborn photo session while you are still pregnant, since newborns are our top priority, please feel free to contact us even if your baby has already arrived or is a few weeks old. Ideally, babies are best photographed between 5 and 10 days old, Jodie has so many years of experience, she is able to photograph babies beautifully at any age. By 3 weeks of age, babies may develop baby acne or cradle cap. Do not worry! She also has over 15 years of experience retouching and will remove these imperfections in a very natural way to not compromise the integrity of the image. This is done at no charge to you.

The photographer will arrive promptly at the time scheduled. You will receive a text or phone call if unexpected traffic is a problem. She will evaluate the natural light and decide whether studio light is needed. A cleared space of about 6 x 6 feet is all that is needed to create these images. Generally, it takes about 10 minutes to set up. She will provide a space heater that will be monitored to create a pocket of warmth to keep baby comfortable and provide soothing white noise.
Props are not generally provided for photo sessions. It is felt that if a prop is used, it is best something that the client owns that is special to them. Compositionally, too many props will overpower baby and your eye will be searching for baby in the photo instead of focusing right in on your sweet newborn. A classic wooden or wire bucket/bowl/box will be brought in case an “anchor” is needed for a photograph. For instance, if an older sibling is toddler age and needs some assistance to get close baby, sometimes this “anchor” will provide a much needed focal point for toddler to interact with baby for some sweet and special images.
Neutral toned blankets, fluff, and other textured fabric will be brought to the location along with photography equipment and lighting. This material may be toned in post processing after the session if a specific color is desired; however, neutral will continue to match your future decor as well as compliment every baby’s skin tone.
Images taken with mom and dad are best done after a feeding especially if mom is breast feeding as baby will identify mom and let her know it’s time to eat, even if it is not quite that time. Babies will most likely not stick to their nursing schedule and want to eat more often as they know something different is going on, and this provides comfort.
An added bonus of having these sessions take place in your home is that if there are older siblings, they will not get bored and frustrated, having to wait through the session. They may go about their normal day which is much easier for them.
